HTC has unveiled a new mid-range smartphone in its home market Taiwan, the Desire 12s. The company is looking to reboot its smartphone sales in the first half of 2019 by focusing on mid-tier to high-end models, HTC Taiwan president Darren Chen said at a press conference reported by Digitimes.
He said the company will continue to extend its high-end U12+ lineup in 2019 so as to prolong the series' product life cycle. Sales of the U12 life 128GB version have been robust since its launch in November, and HTC has also sold out the first batch of its blockchain-enabled smartphone, the Exodus, launched in early December, Chen said.
For the mid-range segment, the company unveiled the HTC Desire 12s smartphone, which will launch in select markets around the world from this month.. The recommended price is TWD 5,990 (USD 194).
The device runs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 CPU and comes with 13-megapixel front and back cameras and support for LTE dual-carrier speeds. The phone features a dual-texture design on the back and will be available in a choice of black or silver with 3GB/32GB or 4 GB/64GB. It targets sales during the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year season, Chen said.
