Huawei expects 42% jump in consumer revenues for 2016

Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) expects 2016 revenues to rise 42 percent from the year before to CNY 178 billion, achieving steady growth for the fifth consecutive year. Smartphone shipments increased by 29 percent to 139 million units. Huawei CBG also noted it successfully broke into the European high-end market and that its Huawei’s overseas smartphone shipments equaled domestic shipments, with mid-high end handset shipments rising to 36 percent. Total shipments for tablets across both B2B and B2C areas surged 90 percent to over 10 million units.

The number of the company’s cloud service mobile users passed 200 million, with over 22 million registered developers. Partners were able to share over CNY 2.8 billion in revenue through Huawei cloud services. Huawei said its global retail network now has over 70,233 stores.

CBG CEO Richard Yu attributed the growth in 2016 to Huawei innovations in operating systems, dual camera technology and AI, as well as the company’s consumer and innovation-centric approach, commitment to building a premium brand, the reinforcement of its global channels and its consistent service. Looking to this year, CBG will look to strengthening its supply chain, channels, R&D, services and other areas required to streamline operations, improve the efficiency of decision-making and implementation, drive its internationalisation strategy and develop future capacity.

Huawei cited GfK data which showed the company holding a 15 percent market share in 30 countries and over 20 percent in another 20 countries, the half in Europe. In north-east Europe and Western Europe, Huawei’s market share has gone higher than 15 percent and 10 percent, respectively. The company holds a dominant market share in a number of northern European countries and has made progress in the UK, France, Germany and other key markets. In China, Huawei’s market share exceeded 20 percent for the first time in November 2016 and dominated the USD 500-600 high-end market.
