Huawei launches cloud platform with new smartphone

Huawei Technologies launched a new online storage service to accompany its smartphones. The Cloud+ platform will allow users to store music, video, pictures, e-mail and other applications on its remote servers and access them via the internet through their smartphones. Victor Xu, chief strategy and marketing officer for Huawei Device, told reporters in Beijing at the launch of its Vision smartphone that the new product is aimed at young social networkers. Huawei is targeting shipments of more than 1 million units of the smartphone this year, which comes with the blockbuster Angry Birds game pre-installed. Company executives declined to provide any pricing details but said the smartphone would not sell for less than CNY 2,000 (USD 305), Reuters reports. The 9.9-mm, 121-g phone runs on Google's Android 2.3 operating system and a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. It will launch in selected markets in September.
