Huawei reports FY sales growth of over 15%
Huawei Technologies said its sales revenue rose over 15 percent in 2014 to around USD 46 billion, helped by its increased focus on smartphones and enterprise equipment. CEO Ken Hu gave the figure in a new year's message posted on the company's website. At current exchange rates, the company booked sales of CNY 286 billion in 2014, compared to CNY 239 billion reported for 2013. Growth appears to have slowed somewhat in the second half of the year, after Huawei reported revenues up 19 percent for the first six months of 2014. The annual figure is still nearly double the year-earlier growth rate of 8.5 percent in 2013.

Hu also outlined a number of priorities for the company in 2015. After reorganising in the past year its three divisions of Carrier, Enterprise and Consumer, the company aims to increase flexibility and delegate more authority and responsibility to operational units in the field, while streamlining its back office. At an operational level, Huawei plans to shift from a "function-centered" to a project-centered approach, in order to boost efficiency and profitability over the next few years.

In 2015, the company will begin piloting pre-sales and post-sales alignment at the project level, aiming to resolve issues in three key areas: project manager authorization, project resource assurance, and budget management. A management transformation pilot started in Germany, aimed at improving customer engagement and market orientation, will be extended to other countries.

Hu also highlighted the need to focus more on cyber security and user privacy. This includes increased assurances to operator customers of stable and secure networks and "a solemn commitment to the public, governments, and customers regarding cyber security and user privacy protection". Hu said that Huawei "will take all necessary measures to advance user privacy protection in accordance with local laws and regulations". This includes strengthening communication with external stakeholders, including governments and the media, so "they will understand that Huawei is a steady and responsible corporate citizen, an innovative enabler for the information society, and a collaborative industry contributor".
