Huawei to launch video service in Spain, Italy

China’s Huawei is preparing to launch a Netflix-style video streaming service in Spain and Italy in the first quarter 2018, reports Variety, citing the company’s Consumer Europe Mobile Services VP Jaime Gonzalo. In Spain the company has teamed up with commercial broadcaster Atresmedia to create what is described as a new platform focusing on content for Huawei and Honor-branded smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. Huawei Video will start as a pre-installed service video for the company’s mobile devices before becoming a paid SVOD platform for the viewing of series and movies at an unspecified later date.

The service will offer free-of-charge international and local content in the two launch countries before expanding to the rest of Europe, said the report, adding that the platform will also feature content from international producer Under The Milky Way. In Spain, Huawei Video will be competing with SVOD rivals such as Netflix, HBO Espana, Amazon Prime Video and the newly-launched Sky Spain service.

Sky app available on Samsung smart TVs in Spain

Sky has announced that its recently-launched Spanish OTT service can now be accessed on Samsung smart TVs released over the past three years. The corresponding app gives subscribers full access to all the content they have signed up for, namely 12 live channels and an on-demand catalogue of TV series, films and documentaries for EUR 10 a month. Samsung tops Spain phone sales as Xiaomi overtakes Apple

Samsung has consolidated its position as the top-selling smartphone brand in Spain in the three months to July, accounting for 25.2 percent of all devices sold, up 0.7 percent year on year. Sky launches Spanish OTT service for EUR 10 a month

Pay-TV giant Sky has launched its online pay-TV service in Spain. The predominantly HD, entertainment-focused offering is similar to the Now TV-branded OTT service already available in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy, but the Spanish launch marks the first time Sky has entered a market where it has no satellite operation. Sky TV costs EUR 10 a month and gives subscribers access to 12 live channels and an on-demand catalogue of TV series, films and documentaries.

Mediaset, Atresmedia share over 85% of Spanish TV ad market

Spanish broadcasters Atresmedia and Mediaset continued their dominance of the country's TV advertising market in the first six months of 2017, accounting for 85.5 percent of spending, according to a report from Infoadex.
