Hutchison 'buyer not seller' in Italian market - 3 CEO
Talks on a merger between Telecom Italia and 3 Italia could start again in the autumn, although 3 could change its strategy and opt for a merger with Wind, reports Bloomberg from an interview with 3 Italia CEO Vincenzo Novari. He said Hutchison "will be a buyer not a seller" in the eventual consolidation of the Italian market from four to three mobile networks. The CEO said talks with Telecom Italia broke down earlier over concerns about the incumbent operator's debt and the shareholder structure. According to reports at the time, Hutchison Whampoa was expected to acquire a stake in Telecom Italia in exchange for merging 3 Italia with the operator. This could have impacted Hutchison's own debt rating, Novari noted.
