India plans fresh spectrum auction before March 2013
The Indian government is planning to hold an auction of the mobile spectrum that was left unsold at a sale this week before the end of the fiscal year to March 2013, reports Reuters citing telecommunications minister Kapil Sibal. Four telecommunication zones, including the Delhi and Mumbai circles, saw no demand in the auction, which raised less than a quarter of the government's INR 400 billion target. The government was also left with no bidders in the CDMA part of the auction after Tata Teleservices and Videocon Telecommunications dropped their interest. The decision on the fresh auction will be taken by a panel of ministers, Sibal said.
