Ireland's Communications Minister Richard Bruton and ComReg have signed regulations to enable the regulator to release additional radio spectrum on a temporary basis.
The move is designed to help mobile network operators boost mobile and broadband capacity as they cope with increased demand during the Covid-19 pandemic. Operators can apply for temporary licences that are valid for a maximum of three months. They will be able to apply for a further 3-month extension if the current situation continues for longer. ComReg will apply a nominal fee of EUR 100 per licence.
