ITC to investigate Qualcomm complaint against Apple

The US International Trade Commission has agreed to investigate a complaint from Qualcomm against Apple. The chipmaker accused of infringing its patents with the iPhone and calls for an import and sales ban on the smartphones in the US.

Qualcomm filed the ITC complaint in early July and is suing Apple for similar reasons in courts in the US and Germany. Apple initiated the dispute in January, accusing Qualcomm of charging excessive licensing fees for its processors and abusing its dominant market position. Apple and its contract manufacturers have been withholding licence fees to Qualcomm while they fight the company in court.

ITC indicates Apple breached Qualcomm battery patent

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has recommended that a trade judge find that Apple infringed at least one of Qualcomm patents, reports Reuters, adding that the move could result in some iPhone imports being blocked. The decision comes after Qualcomm lodged a complaint against Apple nearly a year ago requesting a ban on the import of infringing Intel-based iPhones. The ITC has now indicated that Apple breached one of Qualcomm's patents around battery-saving technology.

A US judge has said that Apple's lawsuits against Qualcomm abroad can proceed while the company's pricing dispute continues in the US, Reuters reported.
