KPN to buy cable services company Caiway
Dutch operator KPN has agreed to buy the cable company CAIW Holding from the Rabo Bouwfonds Communication Infrastructure Fund (CIF). The transaction still needs to be approved by competition regulator NMa. No financial details were announced. A pioneer in digital services in the Netherlands, CAIW delivers TV, internet and telephony services over cable and fibre networks under the name Caiway, mainly in the southwest of the country. CIF will remain the owner of the cable network infrastructure, which is already separated in another company. At the end of March, Caiway had around 143,000 customers for TV, 74,000 for internet and 33,000 for telephony. Caiway will operate as an independent unit at KPN and continue under its own name. KPN said the takeover will expand its position on the TV market and strengthen its position in broadband. It also comes in line with the company's support for open networks.
