The first production will be the 10-episode series Brussel, written by Leon de Winter and produced by Endemol Shine Nederland. It will broadcast in the second half of 2016, and all ten of the 50-minute episodes will be offered at once for customers to view.
KPN also plans music and sports productions, such as the partnership with Mojo to offer concerts and behind-the-scenes footage from the Amsterdam Dance Event and documentaries about great and small sports. This also will include expanding the KPN Goal Alert service offered with the Eredivisie, with pre- and post-match overviews.
KPN said it will offer the new content both on-demand as well as through linear channels on IPTV and Play. The aim is to better meet customer expectations for access to content, anytime, anywhere and on any device, while also still serving customers who prefer linear TV. The first content should be available later this year, and in total KPN expects to make "hundreds" of hours of its own material.
Initially the aim is to increase customer satisfaction, rather than win over new customers. The content will remain exclusive to KPN customers, including those on Play, who will not require a KPN internet or TV subscription. KPN said it will also seek partnerships with other content producers to expand the exclusive offering.
