Lenovo to buy Motorola Mobility from Google
Lenovo has agreed to acquire Google's Motorola Mobility smartphone business in a USD 2.91 billion deal. The consideration includes USD 1.41 billion paid at close, comprised of USD 660 million in cash and USD 750 million in Lenovo ordinary shares, while the remaining USD 1.5 billion will be paid in the form of a three-year promissory note. 

The acquisition includes the Motorola brand and Motorola Mobility's portfolio of smartphones while Google will maintain ownership of the vast majority of the Motorola Mobility patent portfolio. As part of its ongoing relationship with Google, Lenovo will receive a licence to this portfolio of patents and other intellectual property. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.

Lenovo to raise USD 1 bln in bond issue

Lenovo announced plans to issue USD 1 billion in notes. The proceeds will go towards general working capital and to help fund its recent acquisitions. The unsubordinated and unsecured notes will be offered to professional investors only and listed in Hong Kong. Royal Bank of Scotland and Standard Chartered Bank are joint lead managers and joint bookrunners on the issue.

Lenovo Q3 sales up 15%, ships almost 14 mln smartphones

Lenovo reported revenues for its fiscal third quarter up 15 percent year-on-year to USD 10.8 billion, while net profit rose 30 percent to USD 265 million. Sony has denied a report that it's in talks with Lenovo on a joint venture in the PC market. Motorola slows Google growth in Q4

Google reported fourth-quarter revenues up 17 percent from a year earlier to USD 16.86 billion. Motorola accounted for 7 percent of revenues or USD 1.24 billion, down from USD 1.51 billion a year ago. Google's own revenues were up 22 percent year-on-year to USD 15.72 billion.
