Less than one in five use mobile device to control TV
The Dutch prefer to use a remote control for TV viewing and few have embraced the smartphone or tablet for changing channels. Around four-fifths (84%) use a remote control, 11 percent a smartphone and 5 percent a tablet, according to a survey by the Telecompaper Consumer Panel

Young people were more interested in using mobile devices to control the TV. Over one in five (23%) of teens said they would use their phone to change channels, as well as 14 percent of 20 year-olds and 18 percent of 30 year-olds. The figure was only 5 percent for over-50s. The 65-80 year-olds were the only group to prefer a tablet over a smartphone for controlling the TV. This is in line with the popularity of tablets in this age group, as they are already more likely to own a tablet than a smartphone.
