LG opens new software upgrade centre in Seoul
LG Electronics has opened its new Software Upgrade Center in South Korea. The facility is aimed at providing customers worldwide with timelier smartphone operating system and software updates. 

Located in LG’s new research and development campus in Magok-dong, western Seoul, the centre is charged with developing and delivering regular OS updates for LG smartphones and ensuring a consistent user experience on LG devices via regular testing. LG said the centre will mean it can roll out OS updates faster and ensure customers around the world receive the same level of quality service. 

One of the first updates from the centre will be to roll out Android 8.0 Oreo for the LG G6 later this month starting in Korea, followed by other key markets.

LG to launch G7 ThinQ smartphone in May

LG Electronics will showcase its LG G7 ThinQ flagship smartphone in early May. The device will also include improved artificial intelligence (AI) features. The smartphone will be initially launched in New York on 2 May, followed by another launch event in Seoul on 3 May, Yonhap news agency reports. "We have been focusing on adding new and various features to smartphones. Now is the moment to provide solutions on helping users utilize them conveniently", LG Electronics said.

LG expects profit to jump over 20% in Q1

LG Electronics said its revenues and operating profit in the first quarter were the highest it ever posted for a Q1, reaching KRW 15.1 trillion and KRW 1.1 trillion, respectively. In its preliminary report, the company expects the tentative revenues to rise 3.2 percent from the year before, with the operating profit jumping 20.2 percent year-on-year.
