LG operating profit recovers on strong revenue growth in Q4
LG said preliminary results for the fourth quarter showed a recovery in its operating profit and strong revenues. The company expects revenues for the quarter to amount to KRW 16.96 trillion, an increase of 14.8 percent year-on-year. The operating result will reach KRW 366.8 billion from a loss the year earlier of 35.2 billion. 

For the full year, revenues lifted almost 11 percent to KRW 61.40 trillion, while the operating profit leaped almost 85 percent to KRW 2.46 trillion.

LG adds AI to latest TV models

LG Electronics announced at CES the addition of artificial intelligence to its top TVs, to support extensive voice commands and control of the devices. The ThinQ AI processor will support LG's own 'smart' platform as well as third-party AI services, such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The 2018 models will be the first with the new features.

LG offers Android Oreo OS upgrade for V30 users

LG Electronics has announced it has started updating LG V30 smartphones to the latest version of the Android OS dubbed Oreo. The official update comes LG started a preview program in November to allowed selected users to test the Oreo and provide feedback, Yonhap news agency reports. LG said it collected 500 views and recommendations, which will help the company provide optimized services to V30 users.

LG Electronics (LG) said it will showcase at CES 2018 a smarter lineup of premium audio products. The new lineup includes various products, from immersive Dolby Atmos soundbars to portable Bluetooth speakers and its latest artificial intelligence (AI) speaker with Google Assistant built in.

LG, Here to offer telematics services for autonomous vehicles

LG Electronics has signed a partnering agreement with Here Technologies, a global provider of digital mapping and location services, to offer telematics services for autonomous vehicles. The service combines LG's telematics products with map data and location services powered by the Here Open Location Platform. Through their planned collaboration, the companies aim to support automakers globally with a secure data communications hub for automated and fully autonomous cars.

LG names marketing director for Western Europe

LG Electronics announced the appointment of Merlin Wulf (47) as the new marketing director for the DACH and Benelux regions from 01 December. He will lead LG's marketing in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, in a new position at the company of Director Marketing Western Europe.

LG replaces mobile CEO, hires new CTO from Samsung

LG Electronics is replacing the head of its mobile phone business. Hwang Jeong-hwan has been named president and CEO of the LG Mobile Communications Company, while current president Juno Cho takes on a new role within LG's parent company. Hwang has years of experience in R&D and was closely involved in developing one of LG's first smartphones in 2009 as head of the CTO's Multimedia R&D Lab, the company said.

LG results up in Q3 as smartphone sales return to growth

LG Electronics reported a strong improvement in third-quarter results, as growth in its home appliances and TV business was supplemented by improved sales of its smartphones. Revenues increased 15 percent to KRW 15.22 trillion, with higher sales all four divisions. Operating profit nearly doubled to KRW 516.1 billion, as strong profitability in home entertainment and appliances offset losses in the mobile and automotive businesses.
