LG Uplus wins 2.1GHz spectrum for mobile service
South Korean mobile operator LG Uplus has won 20MHz of spectrum in the 2.1 GHz band for its mobile service, reports the Yonhap News Agency citing the telecommunication regulator. The winning bid by LG Uplus was expected as its two rivals SK Telecom and KT were banned from joining the spectrum auction in order to ensure sufficient market competition. The Korea Herald reports that LG will pay the minimum bid price of KRW 445.5 billion for the radio frequencies. Meanwhile SK and KT bid for spectrum in the 1.8GHz band, at KRW 492.1 billion, according to the Korea Communications Commission.

SK Telecom wins 1.8 GHz band spectrum, KT takes 800 MHz

Korean operator SK Telecom has won a licence for the 1.8 GHz spectrum band. SK Telecom bid KRW 995 billion for 20 MHz of the spectrum. Rival KT bowed out over the soaring bidding costs, which more than doubled from the initial auction price of KRW 446 billion, Reuters reports. KCC receives licence applications from 3 carriers

Korean communications provider SK Telecom has applied for two licences in for the 800 MHz and the 1.8 MHz bands. The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) received applications for licences in the 800 MHz band, 1.8 GHz band, and the 2.1 GHz band from three carriers, Reuters reports citing a KCC official. LG Uplus sees Q2 profits slump

Korean communications provider LG Uplus saw its profits slump in the second quarter. Revenues went up 16.5 percent to KRW 2.30 trillion from 1.98 trillion in the year-ago quarter. Wireless revenues came in at KRW 846.8 billion, down 5.1 percent, triple play revenues rose went u 13.8 percent to 294.8 billion, and data revenues grew 3.8 percent to 322.9 billion. SK Telecom, LG Uplus launch LTE services

Korea's SK Telecom and LG Uplus are launching commercial LTE services on 1 July. SK said its initial network in the 800MHz band includes 1,772 radio units and 609 digital units, with support from the operator's 200,000 existing 800MHz repeaters across Seoul, including underground and indoor areas.
