Liberty Global launches Horizon TV
Liberty Global has launched Horizon TV with UPC in the Netherlands, with roll-out in Switzerland, Germany and Ireland set to follow over the next 3-6 months. The new family of set-top box allows customers to view and share content across the TV, computer, tablet and smartphone. The Horizon TV platform is powered by a user interface that seamlessly navigates and recommends digital content from cable, on-demand libraries, personal devices, selected apps and online sources. Developers can also make apps for the platform, and it will come with apps such as YouTube, Wikipedia and Facebook. The Horizon TV gateway also serves as a full triple-play box delivering video as well as internet and voice connections along with a wireless network for the home.

UPC NL hits record sales growth in Q3 as RGUs decline

UPC Netherlands lost 21,100 customers in the third quarter, reaching a new total of 1.76 million. The total number of services sold (RGU: revenue generating units) declined on a quarterly basis by 3,200 to 3,680,000. The decline was attributed to the loss of analogue TV subscribers (by 30700 to 694200), not fully offset by gains at other services. Liberty Global grows Q3 revenues 4%, adds 380,000 RGUs

Cable operator Liberty Global added 320,000 revenue-generating units in the third quarter, to finish September with a total 34.1 million. The company lost 90,000 basic video customers in the quarter, mainly in Germany, Poland and Chile, but added 180,000 digital TV users, 198,000 new broadband customers, and 211,000 telephony subscribers. UPC blijft Horizon verbeteren met updates

UPC laat weten voortdurend bezig te zijn met verbeteringen van de functionaliteit van de onlangs gelanceerde mediabox Horizon. Tegen de website Totaal TV zegt de kabelaar de updates door middel van firmware door te geven aan de gebruiker. De eerstvolgende update komt in de loop van oktober, aldus UPC. UPC sees strong demand for Horizon box

UPC Netherlands is seeing stronger-than-expected demand for its new Horizon set-top box, reports Broadband TV News. Marketing director Peter Dorr said at the CTAM Europe conference in Vienna that demand was 500 percent higher than planned. While the company has enough of the boxes, its capacity to install the devices is being tested. The original plan was to always send a technician to install the new box, but the company has started sending the boxes to customers with instructions for self-installation. UP

Kit designs delivery platform for Liberty Global Horizon TV

IP-based video enablement technology provider KIT digital will deliver Online Enterprise Service Platform (OESP) for Liberty Global's Horizon TV Online service. KIT digital designed and developed the delivery platform and will be providing the managed services. The Horizon TV platform will first be rolled out to UPC's existing customers in the Netherlands, followed by Switzerland in the fourth quarter and Germany and Ireland early 2013.

UPC Ireland demonstrates 1.4 Gbps download speed

Cable operator UPC Ireland has achieved an internet download speed of more than 1.4 Gbps at a live demonstration over a standard home cable. The company has also confirmed that it is doubling standard entry level broadband speeds for new customers from 25 Mbps to 50 Mbps. In addition, UPC announced new 100 Mbps (formerly 50 Mbps) and 150 Mbps (formerly 100 Mbps) download speeds.

De speciale iPad app waarmee digitale abonnees van UPC via de tablet live naar tot tachtig tv-kanalen kunnen kijken, komt nog deze week beschikbaar. Dat meldt UPC aan Totaal TV. Op dit moment kan men al via pc en laptop live tv-kijken. De Horizon Live TV iPad app zou eigenlijk aan het begin van deze week al beschikbaar zijn. Echter. Apple heeft de app nog niet goedgekeurd. UPC gaat er wel vanuit dat de app nog deze week te downloaden is.

Liberty Global posts Q2 profit on Austar sale

Liberty Global moved to a net profit of USD 702 million in the second quarter, versus a loss of USD 347 million a year earlier, thanks to a gain on the sale of its Australian operation Austar. The cable operator's revenues rose 4 percent year-on-year to USD 2.52 billion, and operating cash flow improved 3 percent to USD 1.19 billion. Liberty Global to launch Horizon box in Germany in Q1 2013

Liberty Global will launch its new set-top box Horizon in Germany in Q1 2013, according to a report from Advanced-television.com. The company's CEO Mike Fries revealed the release date at the Anga cable show in Cologne, saying that the German launch would follow the introduction of the box in the Netherlands and Switzerland in Q3 this year.
