Machine learning chipmaker Graphcore raises USD 50 mln

UK-based machine intelligence company Graphcore has announced a USD 50 million Series C funding round by Sequoia Capital. This latest funding will allow Graphcore to accelerate growth to meet expected demand for its machine intelligence processor. 

The funds will be used to boost production, develop a community of developers around the Poplar software platform and expand its Palo Alto, US-based team to help support customers. Graphcore expects to ship its first Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU) products to early-access customers at start-2018.

UK-based AI chip startup Graphcore has raised USD 200 million in a Series D funding round led by existing investor Atomico and new investors including Sofina, Merian, BMW and Microsoft among others. In a statement, Graphcore said the funding round values the company at USD 1.7 billion and follows a USD 50 million Series C round held in November 2017 led by Sequoia Capital.

UK-based Graphcore announced that it's raised USD 30 million from investors in a Series A financing round after two years in stealth mode. The investors include Bosch, Samsung, Amadeus Capital, C4 Ventures, Draper Esprit, Foundation Capital & Pitango Capital. Graphcore is developing processors aimed at improving machine learning. The technology looks to reduce the cost of accelerating AI applications in the cloud and bring AI to low-power consumer devices.
