Taiwanese semiconductor company MediaTek said revenues for full year 2020 increased almost 31 percent from the year before to TWD 322.146 billion. For December alone, sales lifted 47 percent to TWD 32.429 billion. Fourth quarter revenues amounted to TWD 96.4 billion, Digitimes reported, close to the high-end of the company’s guidance, though lower from the 97.27 billion recorded in the previous quarter.
For the first quarter, the sequential revenue decline will slow to 10 percent, Digitimes said. Market watchers believe a ramp-up in 5G SoC shipments will lead to a particularly strong first quarter for the company.
MediaTek contracts mainly TSMC to make its 5G mobile chips. The market watchers say the company has received orders for major China-based brands' new models, slated for launch in the first quarter. The company became the biggest smartphone chipset vendor during the third quarter, according to a report from Counterpoint Research.
