Meizu Ubuntu smartphone to go on sale in Europe
The latest smartphone running the Ubuntu software will go on sale 25 June in Europe. The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition will cost EUR 299 and be available by invitation only from Meizu's website. Invitations will be generated randomly on an interactive origami wall on Meizu’s website featuring different views of the Ubuntu phone. The phone was first released in May to developers in China. 

The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is available in silver and gold colours and comes with 16GB internal memory, a 20.7 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and dual LED flash, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and a 5.36-inch Sharp premium retina screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Ubuntu user interface is built around Scopes, a way to access quickly the most important services directly on the home screen. Since the launch of the first Ubuntu device a few months ago, there are already over 1,300 Scopes and apps available in the Ubuntu Store.

Meizu introduces MX5 smartphone in China

Meizu has launched its new flagship MX5 smartphones in China. The device supports TD-LTE and FDD LTE and runs Android 5.0, the Digitimes reports. The metal-body phone comes with a a MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) 8-core processor, 5.5-inch 1080p display, 20.7-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera and 3GB RAM. The MX5 will sell for CNY 1,799 (USD 290) for 16GB unlocked, CNY 1,999 for 32GB and CNY 2,499 for 64GB.

Canonical, BQ launch second Ubuntu smartphone in Europe

Canonical has announced the launch of the second Ubuntu phone manufactured by Spanish company BQ. BQ launches Ubuntu smartphone in Europe

Spanish company BQ will start marketing the first smartphone with the Ubuntu OS. This is a new version of BQ's Aquarius E4.5 smartphone, which launched earlier running Android. Meizu signs strategic deal with Canonical

Chinese handset manufacturer Meizu and UK-based Linux software developer Canonical have inked a strategic partnership agreement bringing Canonical's Linux-based mobile OS "Ubuntu' to Chinese smartphones, Marbridge Daily reports. Under the agreements, Canonical will expand Meizu's Android-based 'Flyme OS into overseas markets. According to the report, the first Ubuntu-based Meizu smartphone should be released in the first quarter of 2015.
