MetroPCS deploys RCS on LTE network
MetroPCS Communications has announced the commercial launch of Rich Communication Service (RCS) on its LTE network. MetroPCS will offer its RCS services under the GSMA-licensed joyn brand, Based on the GSMA RCS 5.0 standard, joyn by MetroPCS will deliver a unified and intuitive way to use services like integrated instant messaging or chat, Wi-Fi and video calling and simplified content sharing. MetroPCS will support the following RCS services at launch for customers with LTE joyn-enabled smartphones: contacts presence which features contact availability/status sync; calendar sync and social network interaction; Enriched Chat which features threaded conversations; instant messaging and group chat; conversational view and delivery of read notifications and composing indications; content sharing; and Wi-Fi and video calling. Joyn by MetroPCS is currently available on the Samsung Galaxy Attain and can be downloaded from the @metro App Store and Google Play. MetroPCS plans to roll out additional RCS-enabled 4G smartphones and services later this year and throughout 2013 with native support for joyn services coming at a later date.

MetroPCS service revenue falls 1% in Q3

MetroPCS has reported service revenues for the third quarter down 1 percent year-over-year to USD 1.1 billion. Google Wallet comes to MetroPCS

Google announced that its mobile payments service Google Wallet is now supported by a second carrier in the US, MetroPCS. The operator's customers with a Samsung Galaxy S III can now download the app to use Google Wallet, the company announced on Twitter. The service was previously only available with Sprint or its unit Virgin Mobile. Business Insider reports that Google has also updated the Wallet site, promising a new version of Google Wallet soon. Deutsche Telekom CFO defends T-Mobile USA, MetroPCS tie-up

Deutsche Telekom CFO Tim Hoettges has defended the proposed merger of T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS. He said the deal would give T-Mobile USA more than 9 million additional customers and valuable spectrum, as well as allowing T-Mobile to offer a better quality of network in many urban areas. He said the merger would bring massive cost synergies, adding that these would have a cash value of USD 6 billion-USD 7 billion if they were valued as if they were already in force, and this is excluding revenue synergies.

Sprint Nextel considering bid for MetroPCS - report

US mobile carrier Sprint Nextel is considering whether to renew its interest in MetroPCS Communications after the latter agreed a merger deal with Deutsche Telekom unit T-Mobile USA, reports the Wall Street Journal. People familiar with the matter said that Sprint board members would hold a special meeting by phone on 05 October. Sprint almost secured a deal to acquire MetroPCS in February, but the deal was blocked by the Sprint board.
