Microsoft in talks to buy Minecraft game maker - report

Microsoft is in serious discussions to buy Mojang, the Swedish company behind the popular Minecraft video game, a person with knowledge of the matter told the Wall Street Journal. The deal would be valued at more than USD 2 billion and could be signed as early as this week, the report said. A Microsoft spokesman declined comment, as did Mojang CEO Carl Manneh. Mojang has sold over 50 million copies of Minecraft since it was initially released in 2009 and earned more than USD 100 million in profit last year from the game and merchandise. The game is already available on Xbox, as well as on PlayStation, PCs and smartphones.
