Microsoft in talks to buy Nuance Communications for USD 16 billion - report
Microsoft is in advanced talks to buy Nuance Communications, a US specialist inartificial intelligence and speech technology, for USD 56 per share, or a total of USD 16 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing a source close to the matter. Talks are still ongoing and the companies declined to comment on the report.

Microsoft buys Nuance for USD 19.7 billion to expand in cloud healthcare market

Microsoft said it has agreed to buy Nuance Communications, a US-based specialist in artificial intelligence and speech technology, in an all-cash transaction valued at USD 19.7 billion including Nuance debt. The USD 56 per share offer implies a 23 percent premium to the closing price of Nuance stock on 9 April. Microsoft said the deal will enhance its Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare operations, launched last year, and represents the latest step in the company's industry-specific cloud strategy.

Microsoft was awarded a fixed-price production agreement by the US Army to manufacture and supply AR headsets based on the company's HoloLens. The headsets will be used by 120,000 members of the Army Close Combat Force (CCF). The contract may be worth up to USD 21.88 billion, a Microsoft spokesperson told CNBC.

Microsoft is in talks to expand its activity in Israel and to invest USD 1 billion there, Globes reported.  The company is already committed to setting up a data centre in the country in 2021, and this may be brought forward, it said. Another project on the agenda is expanding its chips activity, and it may set up an R&D centre in this area.

Microsoft is in talks to buy Discord, a US-based chat start-up, for over USD 10 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing sources close the matter. VentureBeat earlier wrote that Discord was exploring its sale, in a deal worth "much more" than USD 10 billion. Bloomberg said Discord had been in discussion with a number of potential buyers and that while Microsoft was in the running, no deal was imminent. One source said Discord was more likely to go public than sell itself.
