Microsoft lifts Xbox One restrictions

Microsoft has lifted two key aspects of its upcoming Xbox One home entertainment unit after drawing intense criticism from video game players over the requirement to connect to the internet at least once a day to continue to play an offline game and curbs to players trading games with each other. Rival console maker Sony set no such conditions for its PS4 home entertainment machine, which will sell for USD 100 less. Microsoft interactive entertainment unit president Don Mattrick writes in a blog posting, "The console, after an initial one-time set-up, won't need to connect to the Web at least once every 24 hours to continue playing a game." The company added that Xbox users will not be obliged to only buy games through authorised resellers. They will continue be able to resell, trade and lend used games freely.
