Microsoft to unveil global layoff plan next week - report

Microsoft will be announcing a major reorganisation of the company on 5 July, the Puget Sound Business Journal reported, adding that while the number of layoffs is unclear, they will hit staff in offices around the world.. The company will reorganize its global sales group and lay off workers in order to streamline and sharpen its focus on selling cloud-computing services, the Wall Street Journal said, citing sources familiar with the plans. Microsoft more than 121,000 employees at the end of March.

Microsoft last year announced the departure of COO Kevin Turner, who oversaw 51,000 employees. CEO Satya Nadella then also reorganised the company's sales force, promoting  Judson Althoff to executive vice president of its world-wide commercial business, and Jean-Philippe Courtois to executive vice president and head of global sales, marketing and operations.

The reorganization next week will refine the sales duo’s roles, as well as boost the sales group’s focus on cloud-computing services, according to the source.
