Millennials still consume TV shows more than any other type of video content, even if they are not watching the content from a traditional pay TV provider, according to an October survey of over 3,000 respondents by TiVo in the US. The study found that 73 percent of Millennials (aged 13-34) report they watch network and cable TV shows regularly. The figure was 75 percent for so-called Gen X consumers (35-49), Baby Boomers (50-68) and members of the Silent Generation (69-74).
Of Millennials, 40 percent said they regularly used a pay TV provider (cable, satellite, telecom operator) to watch TV. This is down by 3 percentage points on 2014. The survey found that Millennials use streaming services such as Hulu, Netflix or network apps more frequently than other groups. While 61 percent of Millennials regularly access streaming content, this compares to 51 percent for Gen X, 39 percent for Boombers and 26 percent for the Silent Generation.
According to the survey, 79 percent of Millennials said they were not giving serious consideration to cancelling their pay TV service, compared to over 80 percent of Genx, Boomers and Silent Generation.
