Mobile price erosion slows in France, fixed revenues rise

French mobile tariffs remained relatively stable over the course of 2014, although the annual index nevertheless dropped by an average 10 percent on the year, compared to a decrease of 26.3 percent in 2013, reports French telecom regulator Arcep. Postpaid prices declined by 13.5 percent in 2014, compared  to 25.6 percent a year earlier. Prepaid, which accounts for 15 percent of the market, saw prices rise 7.15 percent in 2014, the first increase since 2011. The market entry of Free in 2012 launched a price war which saw prices drop by 40 percent over three years. Mobile service revenues fell less than in 2013 last year, to EUR 36.8 billion.

Arcep said that landline prices were down by 1 percent in 2014, after a 2.6 percent decrease in 2013. Prices for broadband and superfast broadband services rose by 2.7 percent in 2014, the same growth level as a year earlier. Compared to 2012, they are practically unchanged (-0.2%).
