Motorola has unveiled its latest Motorola Edge device smartphone, with improved image and video quality, and faster speeds. The phone has also been optimised for one-hand use.
The Android 11 smartphone features a 108MP main camera with Ultra Pixel technology. Every nine pixels is combined into one large 2.1μm ultra pixel, for better light sensitivity and low light performance. The phone also comes with a 119 degree ultrawide-angle lens for a wider capture, plus a built-in Macro Vision, for extreme close-ups of as close as 3cm away. The main camera has a depth sensor, to blur the background more accurately and allow post capture adjustment of intensity. The front-facing 32 MP selfie cam provides Quad Pixel technology for sharper light sensitivity.
New camera tools include a Dual Capture mode, allowing people to record with the rear and selfie cameras at the same time. Audio Zoom uses advanced microphones to capture the sound of the subject while filtering out ambient noise and voices. There is in addition super slow motion, and Low Light AI for an automatic analysis of selfies for potential improvements in brightness and quality when the light is low. Finally, the cameras can record 4K video.
The Motorola Edge comes with a 6.8 inch Max Vision display and fast scrolling with a 144Hz refresh rate. It sports the Snapdragon 778G Mobile Platform for faster graphics, processing and AI performance. Snapdragon 778G supports Wi-Fi 6E and is designed specifically for 5G phones. It also includes 256 GB of built-in storage, a 5000 mAh battery and TurboPower 30-Watt charging, plus a new Ready For PC functionality that lets people access their phone apps and PC files on the same screen.
For security, the smartphone is protected by ThinkShield for Mobile. To complement the Android 11 OS, Motorola includes My UX, a service that includes moto experiences, specific apps and customizations such as Gestures like Quick Capture, Three Finger Screenshot, and Pick Up to Silence. Customers can, lastly, choose from 20,000 customizations of icon shapes, colour schemes and display font.
In the US, the new Motorola Edge will be available unlocked at Best Buy, BH Photo, Amazon.com and Motorola.com from 2 September. Pre-sales will start there on 23 August. For a limited time, the smartphone will be available for USD 499.99, a discount of USD 200. Verizon and Spectrum Mobile will also deliver the device in the coming months.
In Canada, the edge will become available over a few months.
