Mozilla appoints Gal as CTO
Mozilla has announced the appointment of Andreas Gal as its new chief technology officer. Gal joined Mozilla more than six years ago to apply his PhD research to advance the javascript engine that powers Firefox. In his new role, Gal will have responsibility for leading technical decision making, representing Mozilla externally on technology, and managing its R&D programmes. He will also continue to serve as vice president of mobile.

Brendan Eich has stepped down as CEO of Mozilla, barely a week after being named to the position. His decision follows an online campaign against him, opposing a donation he made to a campaign against gay marriage. Three Mozilla board members resigned over the choice of Brendan Eich, a Mozilla co-founder, as the new CEO, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Mozilla board of directors announced that co-founder and current CTO Brendan Eich will be appointed to the role of CEO of Mozilla, effective immediately.
