MTS subscriber base up by 7% in Q2

Russian and CIS mobile operator MTS reported that its consolidated subscriber base reached 97.51 million in the second quarter of 2013, up by 6.52 percent year-on-year and up by 0.94 percent quarter-on-quarter. The figure was 71.68 million in Russia, up by 3 percent year-on-year and up by 0.49 percent quarter-on-quarter. In Ukraine, it had 21.59 million customers, up by 9.93 percent year-on-year and up by 2.81 percent quarter-on-quarter.

The figure reached 2.36 million in Armenia, up by 2.16 percent year-on-year but down by 0.84 percent quarter-on-quarter. The subscriber base dropped by 0.52 percent quarter-on-quarter to 1.88 million in Turkmenistan. In Belarus, the number of customers rose 4.78 percent year-on-year and by 0.38 percent quarter-on-quarter to 5.26 million.

Govt continues MTS Belarus stake privatisation process

The Belarusian State Property Committee, in cooperation with national operator Beltelecom, is to carry out a presentation of the auction of state-owned stake in mobile operator MTS Belarus. The presentation will take place at Minsk's President Hotel on 19 September. The state owns a 51 percent stake in MTS Belarus through Beltelecom. Several auctions offering the stake for USD 1 billion have failed.

MTS eyes stake in Euroset - report

Russian mobile operator MTS is considering becoming a shareholder in mobile retail chain Euroset, reports Vedomosti. MTS has already discussed the possibility with Megafon and Beeline, Euroset's current shareholders. Experts consider that Beeline could sell a part of its stake to MTS.

MTS profits boosted by Kyrgyzstan settlement

Russia and CIS mobile oeprator MTS reported second-quarter revenues up 5 percent from a year earlier to RUB 97 billion. OIBDA improved 10 percent to RUB 44 billion, increasing the margin 1.9 percent points year-on-year to 45.5 percent. The company recorded net profit of RUB 29 billion versus a loss of RUB 23 billion a year ago, helped by a one-time gain on the settlement of its dispute in Kyrgyzstan with Altimo and Beeline. MTS spends RUB 50 mln on fraud compensation in H1

Russian mobile operator MTS spent RUB 50 million in compensation for fraud victims in the first half of 2013, reports Digit.ru. The operator also invested RUB 30 million in fraud protection measures. MTS processes 35,000 fraud-related complaints from subscribers during the first six months of the year, triple the number in the relevant period of 2012. MTS compensated for the losses by imposing fines on content providers for violations.

Russian operator MTS, in cooperation with the publishing house Sport Express, has launched the new Sport Express online TV channel. The channel offers an interactive show focused on Russian football. MTS is the official partner of Russian football's Premier League.

MTS installs VAS monitoring system

Russian mobile operator MTS has installed a single system for monitoring of VAS platofrms. The project was carried out by the integrator Tekhnoserv, which designed, installed and launched the system based on the EMC Smarts solution. The platform enables control of over 100 different VAS systems across the country.
