Netflix released a new mobile-only subscription monthly plan priced at INR 199 (USD 2.8), its cheapest subscription so far in India, writes HindustanTimes.com. The move is meant to help it better compete with rivals like Amazon, Disney and a dozen of other competitors that provide services at very low tariffs. India is the first and only market to get the mobile-only Netflix plan. Announced at its 'Netflix House' event in New Delhi, the plan provides the same features as other Netflix subscription plans.
Netflix said it's going to make more investments in India for smartphone users as its Indian users stream Netflix more on their mobile phone than any other device. Netlix users in India are also among the top downloaders of content globally. The company started testing a mobile-only plan earlier in 2019 in India.
Users who sign up can test the service at no cost for one month after which they can continue or cancel. This mobile plan supports smartphones and tablets as well. However, it only supports SD content. End-users can only pay to use the service via debit and credit cards.
