Niger hands Airtel 3G licence, renews 2G permit
Niger has awarded mobile operator Airtel a licence to operate a 3G network and also renewed its 2G licence in the West African nation, Reuters reported. The CFA 34 billion (USD 69.8 million) deal will run for 15 years, starting on 07 December, according to a government statement. Airtel leads the market with 2 million subscribers, after launching in Niger in 2001. It competes against Orange and Moov Atlantique Telecom.

Bharti Airtel quarterly revenues up 13% on 3G expansion

Bharti Airtel reported revenues for its fiscal first quarter up 13.3 percent year-on-year to INR 229.6 billion. The growth was driven by a 74 percent increase in mobile data revenues to INR 22.0 billion, as well as a 9.1 percent rise in the number of customers to hit the 300 million mark.
