
Niger hands Airtel 3G licence, renews 2G permit

Niger has awarded mobile operator Airtel a licence to operate a 3G network and also renewed its 2G licence in the West African nation, Reuters reported. The CFA 34 billion (USD 69.8 million) deal will run for 15 years, starting on 07 December, according to a government statement. Airtel leads the market with 2 million subscribers, after launching in Niger in 2001. It competes against Orange and Moov Atlantique Telecom.
