Nokia buys SON specialist Eden Rock
Nokia Networks announced an agreement to acquire Eden Rock Communications, creator of the Eden-NET SON platform. Through this acquisition, Nokia Networks aims to boost its position on the radio network optimisation market with support for multivendor self-optimising networks. Eden-NET provides a highly extensible SON operating system which includes a large toolbox of SON modules as well as open API to develop further modules. Deployed in diverse network deployments, Eden-Net provides SON functionality to over 1 million cells (GSM, UMTS and LTE) and 50 million subscribers globally. 

No financial details of the takeover were disclosed; the acquisition is expected to close in Q3. Nokia said that Eden's employees will continue to work from Seattle, which will become a new Nokia Networks work site.
