Nokia confirms PureView 808 launch for May

Nokia confirmed its high-end camera phone, the Nokia 808 PureView, will start rolling out in select markets in May. Unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February, the phone is the first to feature Nokia's PureView camera technology, which brings together high-performance sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics, and Nokia-developed imaging algorithms. Nokia also announced the extension of its technology agreement with Carl Zeiss. The first markets to begin selling the Nokia 808 PureView include Russia and India. The smartphone features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor and new pixel oversampling technology. At standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) this means the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images. At high-resolution (38 megapixels maximum) it means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. The phone's camera also offers superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes. In addition, the Nokia 808 PureView includes full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and Nokia Rich Recording, which enables audio recording at CD-like quality. The PureView's other specifications include the Nokia Belle operating system, a 4-inch Amoled screen with Gorilla Glass, 16GB internal memory and support for a microSD card up to 48GB, use as a USB mass storage device, and connectivity through Wi-Fi, HSPA, DLNA, HDMI, Bluetooth and NFC.
