Nokia, HTC sign patent, technology collaboration agreement
Nokia and HTC settled all pending patent litigation between them, and signed a patent and technology collaboration agreement. HTC will make payments to Nokia and the collaboration will involve HTC's LTE patent portfolio. They will also explore future technology collaboration opportunities. The full terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Nokia files patent infringement suits against Apple

Nokia announced that it has today filed complaints against Apple in Germany and the US, alleging that Apple products infringe a number of Nokia patents. Nokia said it agreed a partial licence with Apple in 2011 for some of its technology, but since then has been unable to reach agreement on extending the licence to other patented inventions by Nokia. Nokia said it is in the process of filing further actions in other jurisdictions.

Minder omzet, maar nettowinst voor HTC in vierde kwartaal

HTC heeft in het laatste kwartaal van vorig jaar een omzet gerealiseerd van 42,9 miljard Taiwanese dollar, omgerekend zo'n 1,04 miljard euro. De nettowinst van de Taiwanese fabrikant kwam uit op 0,31 miljard Taiwanese dollar, het operationeel verlies echter 1,6 miljard Taiwanese dollar. De brutomarge bedroeg in Q4 17,8 procent terwijl de operationele marge uitkwam op -3,7 procent. Voor het lopende kwartaal verwacht HTC een omzet tussen de 34,0 en 36,0 miljard Taiwanese dollar.

HTC forecasts net loss, lower sales in Q1

HTC forecast a further fall in results in the first quarter. Revenue is expected at TWD 34-36 billion, down from TWD 43 billion in the fourth quarter. The gross margin is expected to improve to around 21.75 percent from 17.8 percent in the last quarter, while the net result will be a loss of TWD 2.1-2.6 per share, reversing a profit of TWD 0.38 in Q4. IPCom wants USD 2 bln from Apple for patent infringement

German licensing group IPCom has accused Apple of improperly using patented technology that gives emergency calls priority on mobile networks, the Wall Street Journal reported. The group is looking for USD 2 billion in damages from Apple for alleged infringement relating to devices sold in Germany. HTC to adapt phones after Nokia wins patent ruling

HTC has lot another ruling in the patent infringement suit brought by Nokia in Germany. The District Court of Mannheim found HTC infringes the German part of Nokia's patent EP 1579613 (EP '613). HTC said the functionality found to be infringed is redundant and no longer in use in Germany. The company is looking at ways to modify its phones to remove the technology, promising "minimal disruption" to customers. In addition, HTC is pursuing its case in Germany to have Nokia's patent declared invalid.

Nokia loses patent claim against HTC in Germany

HTC announced that the District Court of Munich dismissed a patent infringement complaint from Nokia against the company. The case was over the German part of patent EP 0804046 (Method and apparatus for updating the software of a mobile terminal using the air interface). HTC said it will continue to pursue its legal action before the German Federal Patent Court to have the Nokia patent declared invalid. Nokia earlier won an injunction against sales of certain HTC devices in Germany found to be infringing it
