Nokia starts strategic review of Digital Health business

Nokia announced that it has initiated a review of strategic options for its Digital Health business. Part of its Nokia Technologies division, which also runs its lP licensing business, Digital Health makes consumer products such as smart watches, scales and digital health devices. Nokia said the review "may or may not result in any transaction or other changes", without providing further details.

The company's patent business, brand partnerships and technology licensing units in Nokia Technologies are not part of the review, Nokia added.

Nokia's Digital Health business is based on the French company Withings, acquired in 2016 for EUR 170 million. The company has released a number of new products since the takeover, while transitioning the company to the Nokia brand.

As recently as last October, Nokia announced a renewed focus on the health business, while scaling back its ambitions in the virtual reality device market. It remains the only consumer-focused business within Nokia; handsets under the Nokia name are made under a licensing agreement with the separate company HMD Global.
