
Telefonica UK has confirmed that the O2 4G mobile network will be be switched on in London, Leeds and Bradford on 29 August, making it the second LTE operator after EE. The network will initially reach up to five million people at launch, and O2 plans to make 4G available to an additional two million people per month going forward. The 4G network will be live in 13 cities by end-2013.
SIM only and Pay Monthly tariffs, including O2 Refresh, will be available from launch from GBP 26 a month. Pay&Go tariffs for LTE access will launch in the coming months. Business customers will also be offered tariffs for tablets and mobile broadband from launch and Mobile Wifi (Pop Up Office) in the coming weeks.
To enhance the experience, O2 will offer 12 months free music content for those who buy a 4G consumer tariff direct from O2. All O2 customers will also be offered free 4G advice and guidance from an O2 Guru from launch, either in-store or via web chat, to explore the benefits of the 4G network.
To celebrate the 4G launch, O2 will host a gig in London at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, with a soon-to-be announced headline artist performing an exclusive set. All tickets will be available from O2 Priority. O2 customers will have the opportunity to get their tickets from 09.00 hours on 21 August, 48 hours before general release on 23 August.
