The Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) has launched, with the aim of unifying IoT standards into one single one. The OCF was created by a number of major players, including Arris, CableLabs, Cisco, Electrolux, GE Digital, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm and Samsung.
The OCF’s vision for IoT is for all connected devices to communicate with one another regardless of manufacturer, OS, chipset or transport. Via cross-industry collaboration, the OCF said it wants to help unlock the massive opportunity of the future global IoT segment and accelerate industry innovation, so that different players at all levels can create systems for a single, open IoT interoperability specification.
The OCF unifies the entirety of the former Open Interconnect Consortium with leading companies at all levels –silicon, software, platform, and finished-goods. The Open Connectivity Foundation is creating a specification and sponsoring an open source project to make IoT interoperability possible.
