Orange starts marketing Connected Home service in France

Orange has begun selling a range of smart objects compatible with Connected Home (Maison Connectee), a new automation service that enables customers to control connected products remotely via the Livebox 4 router. First unveiled in December 2018, the service is available at no extra charge to customers subscribing to the Play, Jet, and Up fixed broadband packages (triple-play or Open multi-play bundles). As announced in February, the operator has decided to adopt Ultra-Low Energy (ULE) certified objects for the service, agreeing a partnership with wireless chipset provider DSP Group.

The Orange online store currently offers five compatible products, including a smart plug priced at EUR 39.99 and two security video cameras from Bosch and D-Link (EUR 249.99 and EUR 59.99 respectively). The cheapest items in the range are a door/window sensor selling for EUR 14.99, and an Awox light bulb, priced EUR 24.99.

These smart objects can be controlled via a dedicated mobile app, developed to offer customers a number of predefined options. For example, users equipped with the Awox light bulb can select an energy-saving mode enabling automatic switch-off at a set time. The service will also be compatible with the Djingo speaker, scheduled for a spring launch and expected to retail for EUR 49.
