The report also looks at the postpaid mobile providers in the market. Vodafone’s second brand Hollandsnieuwe and Tele2 are more popular with teens, while seniors tend to favour Simpel and Telfort. Despite these differences, the three main brands KPN, T-Mobile and Vodafone still have the largest shares in postpaid across all age groups.
The monthly cost is the most important reason for mobile users to choose their provider, and this is especially true for the so-called ‘no-frills’ brands (Ben, Hollandsnieuwe, Simyo, Telfort). Customers at the premium brands T-Mobile and Vodafone also named the monthly costs as the most important reason to choose their provider; only KPN customers gave a different reason, citing network quality as most important.
The importance of price has increased over the past year in the postpaid market. At the end of 2014, 43 percent said this was a reason to go with their current provider, while by Q3 2015, the figure had risen to 47 percent.
The research also shows that 40 percent of postpaid customers have changed provider in the past two years. Still, over a third (37%) are with the same provider for more than four years. T-Mobile and Vodafone customers are the most loyal; at least half of their customers have been with the operator for over four years.
