PPF to re-brand Telefonica CR, Slovakia to O2
Private equity company PPF, which in November 2013 bought from Telefonica the majority share of 65.9 percent in Telefonica Czech Republic and 100 percent in Telefonica Slovakia, is changing the operators' names. They will not revert to the previous name EuroTel, as had been speculated, nor change to M Telecom as some had guessed, but instead increase the use of the brand O2 in the Czech market. This follows from the invitation to the company's general shareholders' meeting on 19 May, reports Mobilenet.cz. The shareholders of Telefonica Czech Republic shall decide on the change in trade name to O2 Czech Republic and on changes in some statute provisions. At the same time the Slovak branch shall rebrand to O2 Slovakia. Originally shareholders should have decided on the change during the March assembly, but at that time no decision was taken. Telefonica uses the brand O2 already, and PPF will licence the brand name from the Spanish group Telefonica. That would be a cheaper solution than an overall re-branding.
