Qualcomm to pay USD 110 a share for NXP - report

Qualcomm and NXP Semiconductors have agreed on an all-cash handshake deal that will see Qualcomm pay USD 110 a share for NXP, according to unnamed sources cited by CNBC. The news comes after Bloomberg reported that the two chip companies were nearing a deal that could be announced when NXP releases its quarterly results on 26 October. If the price of USD 110 a share is confirmed, the transaction would be the biggest in the history of the semiconductor industry at close to USD 40 billion, said CNBC, adding that additional deal specifics are still being worked on.

NXP specialises on chips for cars, security and the internet of things, all emerging business for Qualcomm, which is trying to reduce its dependence on the slowing smartphone market.
