Canadian smartphone maker Research In Motion will offer movies at its BlackBerry World store on the same day they are released on DVD and will offer next-day availability on many current TV series. The unified multimedia storefront formerly called BlackBerry App World was recently rebranded to reflect its offer of more than just apps. Music from all major labels will be available for download and streaming, as will content from top local broadcast networks.
Video downloads and rentals from major studios and independents will be available in Canada, the US and UK initially. Movie access will depend on the region and distributor. DRM-free music downloads will be sourced from independent labels as well as majors.
The music service associated with the new BlackBerry 10 OS will launch in 18 countries, for starters, namely in Canada, the US, UK, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Australia, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore. RIM has yet to release pricing information for the new content it will offer at BlackBerry World.
