
RIM unveils new range of BlackBerry 7 phones

Research In Motion unveiled five new smartphones running the latest version of its BlackBerry operating system. Two new versions of the Blackberry Bold and three new BlackBerry Torch phones will launch later this month with the BlackBerry 7 OS. The new software features a faster WebKit browser, improved graphics, voice-activated search and updated BlackBerry messenger and social networking apps. It also comes with the new BlackBerry Protect and BlackBerry Balance security services. Hardware features on the new phones include 1.2 GHz processors, HD video recording, 24-bit high resolution graphics, and advanced sensors enabling new augmented reality applications. The new Bold 9900 and 9930 are RIM's thinnest BlackBerrys to date, at 10.5mm, and come with qwerty keypads and touch displays as well as NFC support. The Torch 9810 Smartphone has a 3.2-inch touch display and slide-out keyboard, while the Torch 9850 and 9860 are the first all-touch BlackBerrys with 3.7-inch displays. RIM said it has lined up over 225 operators and distributors to sell the new phones. AT&T said it will have an exclusive on the BlackBerry Torch 9810 later this month as well as launch the Bold 9900 and Torch 9860 later this year. All the phones are branded 4G, for HSPA+ access. Sprint said it will sell the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 in the autumn.
