Rogers Media and Vice have agreed to end their joint venture for the Viceland channel in Canada, less than two years after its launch. Rogers transferred its stake in the venture to Vice, and the channel will stop broadcasting from 31 March. Viceland content will continue to be available to Canadians on the Vice website.
Rogers did not give a specific reason for ending the venture, saying only that "in this crowded content universe and as audience habits change, we continue to evolve our strategy". The company said it will continue to spend on unique content, redirecting its funding to other Canadian content initiatives "that better align with our portfolio and brands".
