Russian mobile base contracts in 2018, Beeline leads losses

Russia's mobile subscriber base totaled 255.710 million at the end of 2018, down from 256.410 million a year earlier, according to the latest figures from ACM-Consulting. Market penetration was stable at 179 percent.

The subscriber base totaled 46.248 million in Moscow, up from 45.881 million in 2017, and the mobile penetration was 249 percent in the capital city, up by 2 percentage points.

MTS led the total market with 78.010 million subscribers, despite a small decline from 78.300 million in 2017. Megafon came second with 75.200 million, down from 75.445 million, and Beeline followed with 55.253 million, down from 58.160 million. Subscribers at Tele2 Russia increased from 41.600 million to 44.050 million, including 1.750 million subscribers of MVNOs working on its network.
