Samsung adds 4 smartphones to Galaxy range
Samsung has added four smartphones to its Galaxy range. All of the devices, the Samsung Galaxy Gio, the Samsung Galaxy Mini, the Samsung Galaxy Ace and the Samsung Galaxy Fit, will run Google's Android 2.2 platform and feature Samsung's Social Hub and Swype text input. The four phones build on the Galaxy S, which has sold over 10 million units in seven months, in order to create devices customised for four different target groups. The Ace is designed for "trendy and sociable young professionals", offering a compact design with a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 800MHz processor, Google voice search and ThinkFree document viewer. The Ace is immediately available in Russia and will be available in other European countries, India and China. The Fit is "for the user who wants a device that meets all the challenges of a professional career and a busy social life", according to Samsung. It features a 3.31-inch QVGA display, 5MP camera and 600MHz processor as well as a range of office and media functions. The Fit will launch in Russia in February and gradually roll out to other European countries, India and South America. The Gio, based on the Italian word for jewel, comes with a "sleek design and enhanced social networking capabilities". The phone with a 3.2-inch HVGA display "marries brains and beauty for users that want a smartphone that offers the best of both worlds", Samsung says. The Gio will launch in Russia and gradually roll out to other European countries, India and China. Finally, the Galaxy mini is aimed at young people new to smartphones. It features a flashy color stripe along the side, 3.14-inch QVGA display and 600MHz processor. The Mini is available in Russia and will gradually roll out in other European countries, India and China.
