Samsung launches Galaxy Tab 4 series
Samsung has unveiled its latest range of tablets, the Galaxy Tab 4. Available in 10.1-, 8.0- and 7.0-inch screen sizes, the new range targets "the whole family", with more media and sharing features and a slimmer, more portable design, according to Samsung. The tablets will launch starting this quarter worldwide, in black and white versions with a textured back cover. 

In addition to Wi-Fi, the Tab 4 comes with LTE Cat 4 support for multiple bands. Each device runs Android 4.4 and a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and supports 16 GB internal storage and microSD cards. Front-facing cameras have improved to 3 megapixels, while the back cameras support 1.3 megapixels. 

Multimedia features include Group Play to share and play music, documents and games with friends in real-time, Samsung Link to share and play content on other connected devices and WatchON to watch video across devices. The tablets also come with a wide range of Samsung and Google apps.

Samsung sees flat sales, lower opg profit in Q1

Samsung expects to report flat sales and lower operating profit for the first quarter. The company said it expects revenue at KRW 53 trillion, little changed from the year-earlier period, and operating profit of KRW 8.4 trillion, down from KRW 8.8 trillion in Q1 2013. This would be Samsung's second consecutive quarter of lower earnings, hurt by slower growth rates and declining prices in the smartphone market. The company will report full quarterly results at a later date.

Global tablets market grows 68% to 195 mln units in 2013

Worldwide sales of tablets reached 195.4 million units in 2013, a 68 percent increase on 2012, according to Gartner. Growth was fueled by low-end tablets with smaller screens and first-time buyers. Tablet shipments to hit 62.14 mln in Q1

In the first quarter, global tablet shipments are forecast to fall 20.8 percent from the fourth quarter of last year but go up 10.9 percent year-on-year.
