Samsung OS Bada to go open source in 2012 - report
Samsung plans to open up its Bada mobile operating system to outside developers and device makers next year in a bid to reduce its reliance on Google's Android. Samsung "is planning to make Bada software an open source platform next year," a person familiar with the situation told the Wall Street Journal. The move is also targeted at turning Samsung's Bada software into a widely used platform for smart TVs. Samsung launched Bada in late 2009, and the platform is used on the company's cheaper smartphones in Europe and emerging markets.

Samsung, InMobi launch monetisation programme for developers

Samsung and InMobi launched Samsung AdHub, a monetisation programme aimed at Bada developers. To mark the start of this initiative, Samsung AdHub launched a promotion during which members get a publisher revenue share of 80 percent compared to the standard industry revenue share of 60 percent. The promotion lasts until the end of December. To join the programme, developers need to create an in-app ad inventory and then select InMobi as one of the ad networks to receive ads from.

Samsung denies reported interest in HP WebOS

Samsung denied it was interested in buying Hewlett-Packard's WebOS software ,used in handsets and tablet computers, Bloomberg reported. The company would "never" pursue such a deal, Samsung CEO Choi Gee Sung said in Berlin, where he is attending the IFA consumer electronics fair. The comment was confirmed by Nam Ki Yung, a spokesman for Samsung in Seoul. Samsung introduces 3 new Bada phones

Samsung is unveiling three new phones running its Bada mobile operating system at the Ifa trade show in Berlin. The Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y all run Bada 2.0, which offers features such as multi-tasking, WiFi Direct, voice recognition and NFC. The Wave 3 features a 4-inch Amoled screen, 1.4GHz processor and 5-megapixel camera. The Wave M comes with a 3.65-inch HVGA screen and is aimed at social network users. Samsung to launch mobile instant messaging service

Samsung announced plans to launch a new instant messaging service for its mobile devices. The service ChatOn will launch in October on smartphones running Android and Samsung's own OS bada. Samsung said it will also make the software available for basic feature phones and PCs, as well as for use on other mobile OS such as iPhones and BlackBerries. The service will be available in more than 120 countries, in 67 languages.

Samsung releases Bada 2.0 SDK

Samsung Electronics has released the Bada 2.0 SDK, an application development tool for Samsung's own mobile platform.
