
Samsung has refreshed its mid-range Galaxy A series of smartphones in an announcement ahead of the CES congress in Las Vegas. The new range includes the 5.7-inch A7, 5.2-inch A5 and 4.7-inch A3 smartphones.
These are the first in the series to be water- and dust-resistant, and Samsung they also come with improved front and back cameras, with more accurate autofocus. In addition, the storage memory has been increased, with microSD support up to 256 GB, the phones come with Fast Charge and USB Typc-C ports, and the Always on Display allows users to check the time and calendar without waking up the device. They also feature NFC and the Samsung Pay service, and all come with fingerprint scanners.
The A7 and A5 offer similar specifications, with dual 16 megapixel cameras, 3 GB RAM and full HD screens. The A3 has a 720p screen, 2 GB RAM, 13 megapixel main camera and an 8 megapixel front camera. It runs a smaller battery and 1.6 GHz octa-core chip compared to a 1.9 GHz chip for the other phones. All three devices run Android 6.0.
The new A series is planned to launch first in Russia in early January and then roll out gradually in the rest of the world.
